YDA trainers aren’t cheap.

They cost the same as many top of the range high street brands yet they aren’t as well known or sought after.

But they have good reason for holding such a premium price tag. And there’s a reason we recommend them to anyone wishing to invest in the wellbeing of their feet or anyone with an illness that requires them to make foot care a top priority.

They are an orthotic shoe unlike any other.

(‘Orthotic’ is a fancy word that refers to something that supports the limbs or spine).

Let’s have a look at what makes YDA shoes so special…

Orthotic Shoe

Starting with the heel of the shoe. It has a comfortable, cushioned internal structure that protects the heel from injury by gently stabilising it during movement.

The YDA ROCKER soles are made of ultra-light E.V.A. that absorbs heel impact as the foot lands on the ground. It also contains stabilising, non-slip rubber pads that make every step a wonderful sensory experience.

On the inside of the shoe, the YDA removable sole bottoms reduce impact pressure, which reduces foot and leg fatigue thereby enhancing performance. They are lightweight, breathable and can easily be replaced with your own orthotic insert.

The internal insert of the shoe contains Spring System technology, a propulsive synthetic fibre which induces a mechanical bending action with every step.

They come with a seam-free inner lining, which envelops the foot in a protective, cushioned sheath and prevents ulceration of the skin. It also means there’s no break-in period, comfort beings on the first wear.

And finally, the laces. YDA shoes have a semi-elastic rapid lace lock system with a buckle cord clip. This allows continuous adjustment to the foot, giving you unparallelled comfort throughout the day.

All these features combined culminate in a trainer unrivalled for its comfort and promotion of wellbeing for feet.

It explains why they are the number one trainer bought by diabetics around the world and it’s why we recommend them to anyone with foot problems.

However, you may not have to pay full price.

However, high performance comes with a premium price tag.

The YDA’s are a pricey trainer. We don’t recommend them lightly. We feel they are an extremely worthwhile investment and provide invaluable support to your feet at at a time when it is utmost importance.

That being said, we understand that, for some, their price may be a little above their budget.

For you, we have good news.

You may not have to pay full price.

It’s likely you can claim tax relief when you purchase your trainers, saving you the cost of VAT - a sizeable saving!

You see, individuals who are disabled or chronically sick  are eligible for VAT relief prices. An individual is chronically sick if they:

The following conditions may also qualify you for VAT relief in some circumstances; Arthritis, Multiple Sclerosis, Oedema, Heart Disease, Stroke, or any terminal illness.

A temporary injury such as a broken leg would not qualify you.

If you are not sure whether you qualify please ask your medical advisor, as we are not able to give medical opinions.

So how do you claim the tax relief for your YDA trainers?

It’s simple.

Go onto our site, create an account and tick the "I qualify for VAT relief checkbox" and specify which condition applies to you.

After you select your trainers (or any of our items that show ‘VAT relief available’ prices) you will see an icon that will approve the discount before checkout.

There’s a reason YDA are the number one best-selling trainers for diabetics worldwide.

Everything in their design is considered, form follows function, and they are second to none in their field.

Over-pronation, Valgus feet or flat feet, is a common biomechanical problem that occurs when a person’s arch collapses upon weight bearing. This can cause extreme pain, discomfort and excessive wear to footwear.  This can also lead to other foot and knee problems.

What Causes a over-pronation or Valgus feet?

Over-pronation is prominent in many people who have hypermobility or also flat feet. The framework of the foot begins to collapse, causing the foot to flatten and adding stress to other parts of the foot. As a result, over-pronation, often leads to Plantar Fasciitis, Heel Spurs, Metatarsalgia, Post-tib dysfunction, Tendonitis and/or Bunions. There are many causes of flat feet and often people with flat feet do not experience discomfort immediately, and some never suffer from any discomfort at all. However, when symptoms develop and become painful, walking becomes awkward and causes increased strain on the feet and calves.

Treatments
Over-Pronation can be treated conservatively (non-surgical treatments) with custom made orthotics for the more severe cases, to off-the shelf orthotics.  These orthotics should be designed by a qualified Orthotist or Podiatrist and require appropriate arch support and medial rearfoot posting to prevent the over-pronation. Footwear should also be examined to ensure there is a proper fit. Footwear with a firm heel counter is often recommended for extra support and stability. Improperly fitting footwear can lead to additional foot problems.

Treatment with a custom made orthotic/ Insole.

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS) is a common condition that causes a tingling sensation, numbness and sometimes pain in the hand and fingers.
Causes of carpal tunnel syndrome
Carpal tunnel syndrome is caused by compression of the median nerve, which controls sensation and movement in the hands.

The carpal tunnel is a narrow passage in your wrist made up of small bones and a tough band of tissue that acts as a pulley for the tendons that bend the fingers.

Treatment

Wrist splints can help to keep your wrist straight and reduce pressure on the compressed nerve. This often relieves the symptoms of carpal tunnel syndrome. Have one fitted and expect improvements in a matter of days!

Having flat feet, or 'fallen arches', means that your feet have low or no arches and press almost completely flat against the ground.

The arch, or instep, is the middle part of the foot that's usually raised off the ground when you stand, while the rest of the foot remains flat on the ground.

Signs of Flat Feet

Treatments for flat feet

Flat feet only need to be treated if you have an associated problem, such as pain, overpronation or an underlying health condition.

Non-surgical treatments are often recommended first, although surgery may be needed in some cases.

The Achilles tendon is the band of muscle that attaches your calf muscles to your heel bone. You use this tendon to jump, walk, run, and stand on the balls of your feet. Continuous, intense physical activity, such as running and jumping, can cause painful inflammation of the Achilles tendon, known as Achilles tendonitis (or tendinitis).

Causes of Achilles tendonitis
Excessive exercise or walking commonly causes Achilles tendonitis, especially for athletes. Any repeated activity that strains the Achilles tendon can potentially cause tendonitis.

Some causes include:
